*** Release Candidate 2 ***

The OpenWrt Team would like to announce a second release candidate (RC2) of the next major release, codenamed Backfire. Testing of this build will help refine the code in preparation of RC3 and the final release.

Binaries can be downloaded at
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03-rc2/

Changes since Backfire RC1:
* Kernel updated to 2.6.32.10
* New web server (uhttpd) for the web interface, supporting SSL/TLS and CGI, replaces busybox httpd applet
* Support for .trx v2 firmware image format added (needed for Linksys WRT54G3GV2-VF)

New packages:
* cyassl
* px5g
* uhttpd

New targets:
* kirkwood (Marvell Kirkwood: SheevaPlug, GuruPlug, OpenRD...)
* xburst (Ingenic XBurst: QI Ben NanoNote)

Known Issues:
* Encounters of spurious log messages every second on some brcm-2.4 & brcm47xx installs
* Kernel modules missing on ixp4xx
* Under rare circumstances, certain LuCI pages may crash due to a bug in the Lua VM

Note: due to some last minute build problems, ifxmips is not included in RC2, but will be included in RC3 and final Backfire release.

Is there currently any work being done on fixing the JFFSS marker problem (#5071) for the WRT54G v1.1 devices? I know everyone is busy, just curious if we might be able to see a fix by the final release. Thanks!

Hope it's not an april 1st joke big_smile

I have to ask so please dont be angry, I understand this is free and community based so your under no obligation to keep us happy. Does anyone test the pre built images on the download page?

I downloaded one and it didnt even install the wifi.

EDIT: I have a WNDR3700 and tried both betas.

I'm pretty sure that is the whole point of the "release candidate". It is up to us to install and use and figure out what does and doesn't work, report that back so it can be fixed in the final release. That's not to say that a final release will necessarily be problem free and work with every router out there but a final release should at least be documented as to which routers it is known to work with (supported hardware page) and any known problems. There is a link in the original post that lists the bugs. If you think your issue is not documented I believe the right thing to do is submit a bug report. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong about that.

P.S. I don't know exactly what you mean by "didn't even install the wifi" and I don't have a router like yours so I can't test it but Wifi is not enabled by default. Did you try to enable it? Otherwise search the bug database and report it if it's not there.

Besides that you're commenting on a year old release. chipped87 obviously didn't notice that 10.03-rc2 << 10.03.1-rc6

The discussion might have continued from here.
