I have this router tl-wr841n v8.4 and my wan port not working after a storm,I tried the last firmware but i think hardware is the problem, can anyone tell me please, what it's causing the problem, witch electrical part failed ,can be fixed somehow ?
Thank you!

You can't really fix faulty hardware short of replacing it.

What you can do however, is reconfigure a LAN port to act as a WAN port.

You can try to fix by replacing the small transformer near the WAN port. See the black part with the code "hst-1025dr"
http://wiki.openwrt.org/_media/media/dsc02532_324.jpg?w=800

That part electrically isolates Ethernet an the router, so its very hard to damage the electronics with a voltage spike.
You can buy it on Ebay:

However, sometimes a very big spike can damage the transformer and jump over it , damaging the circuitry.

I measured with a multimeter transformer inputs and i have got 2 volts on every pin,i've done the same for lan and i got the same voltage,I suspected that transformer but i wasn't sure ,thats why i asked you guys ,  thank you very much wink

You could use a lan port, cutting the tracks of both wan and that lan port transformers, then soldering the  lan port transformer lines to the tracks that go to the wan's transformer.

what??? it's simpler to remap a lan port as wan using switch configuration LOL

If that it's possible (i don't know how), then sure, its easier lol

if i dont know is not easy ,thats why i wrote here ........when you know you might say its easy .......so what do i mean to say: if you guys know just post here how to do, if you really what to help me big_smile

I think i read here something with remapping lan port as wan using switch configuration but if the problem is that little transformer why not change it ,i have all i need less the transformer .....if i cant find it i go to plan B : remap lap port, like Nebbia 88 sad.

Thanks!

dabyd64 i dont know how to make connections of the lan tranfsormer beacause its not the same as wan ,lan transformer has more pins , if i take wan transformer from another router or switch or network interface card will work ? big_smile

i just realise lan transformer its a double transformer and wan transformer isnt <:-p

I've tried with lan transformer but still not working and i know why because they are different ,in my country we don t have those transforme and will cost me 30 $ for shipping and only 2 $ a piece ,with 30$ i can buy a new router so please help me to configure lan to use as wan.
Thanks!!

Hi! Have you tried this successfully? I bought cheap a bunch of routers with this same wan problem and I wan't to be able to fix them...

Thanks
