Hello friends,

First mention buy two, wr843nd v1.5.

https://ninja-code.de/wr843nd/20151030_122143.jpg

BADLY DONE

The first is a brick now, by the following:
download and update via web tp-link the following bin:
http://dl.eko.one.pl/barrier_breaker/ar … actory.bin

Now, turning on the router, all the LEDs light up for half a second, and then, only the first LED stays on.

https://ninja-code.de/wr843nd/20151030_122212.jpg

I don't have ethernet and WAN signal, if I try to push button WPS/RESET and then ON/OFF to enter safemode continues with only the first led on. and no signs of life.

My question is, how can revive? I have the following rs232 cable and my laptop only has USB ports.

https://ninja-code.de/wr843nd/20151030_122253.jpg

Router wr843nd open, without cover.

WELL DONE

With the other router do the following from the Web interface tp-link next firmware upgrade:
https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots … actory.bin

Then when I finish, i am connect WAN cable and I made a telnet as follows:

#telnet 192.168.1.1
>opkg update
>opkg install luci

I went to "http://192.168.1.1" in the web browser, openwrt with Luci excellent work.

Could someone help me my first wr843nd unbrick? The first failed example, very very thanks

Hi kanzer,
I am also facing same problem like you on TPLINK WR-741ND V4.23 ....Only power LED is ON and all other LEDs are OFF after I upgraded to Openwrt. Have you already found out the solution? I already tried with several ways but still cannot solve out sad sad ..

if you want to install the openwrt ,you may need upgrade you uboot first, and need a programming tools to write the spi flash

Just Follow the instructions here

Download Tftpd32 from here http://tftpd32.jounin.net/download/tftpd32.452.zip

-  Connect the WAN port of the router to your PC (If Wan Did not work then connect LAN)
-  Set your pc ip address to 192.168.1.66
-  Download Official Tplink firmware for V. 1 and rename it to  wr842ndv1_tp_recovery.bin
-  Now put wr842ndv1_tp_recovery.bin in tftpd32 root folder
-  Start tftpd32
-  Power off the bricked device (disconnect the power plug)
-  Press and keep pressed the reset button on the back
-  Connect the power back (while keeping pressed the reset button)
-  After 10 seconds, release the reset button & wait for router to get the firmware from tftp server,
-  It will restart automatically into official tplink firmware

If This method is not working for u then you should try Serial TTL Console to Unbrick

You should buy USB-TTL converter

Also RS232 Cable will not work with these routers
Plz don't waste your time over RS232, its use less.
I personally wasted a lot of time but RS232 cable didn't work with any router.
RS232 is a crap, it will give you scrambled output so don't use it.

Never connect RS232 cable to a router! It isn't crap, it's just a totally different standard, it uses +12 and -12V, instead of the 0 and 3.3V used on the routers.
Say thanks that it didn't kill your router.

When all the leds go off, usually means that the flash went wrong.
It could damage the firmware part only, or in the worse case, the whole flash, including the boot.
In the first case, easy fix with the serial cable, or by TFTP if the router supports it.
In the second, you will need to desolder the flash and program it somehow.
First connect with the TFTP/serial method, and check if you can still have the boot.

The device is the same as a WR841 v8, just minor differences on the power regulator and non detachable antennas.
I think 192.168.1.66 ip is wrong,  check the wiki:

v8,v9,v10 (without serial)

As most other current TP-Link routers this device can be flashed and debricked without serial access. Basically, the procedure is as follows:

Set your PC to use the static IP address 192.168.0.66 (the router will have 192.168.0.86)
Put an OpenWrt factory image named: for v8 mr3420v2_tp_recovery.bin; for v9 wr841nv9_tp_recovery.bin; for v10 wr841nv10_tp_recovery.bin in the root directory of an TFTP server and start it
Power on the router while pressing the reset button until the lock LED is lighting up
Wait for the router to reboot
For details, see reset_button_method_no_serial_cable_needed

Ground also should be connected

Wrong  baudrate or bad earth, as neyrba suggested. Make sure that GND is well connected to the router.

A true usb -RS232 cable is this:
http://litbimg8.rightinthebox.com/images/384x384/201206/tgbgfc1339576234304.jpg
It's a normal USB-serial converter, but has a max232 on the output to convert the signal voltage to +-10V typical

This is a typical  usb-serial converter, called TTL level, because it usually has 3.3v or 5V  signal voltage.
http://cdn.instructables.com/F0L/DZH2/HFD1F0NF/F0LDZH2HFD1F0NF.MEDIUM.jpg

See the GND pin? Connect it to any ground on the router, usually it's already located on the 4 pin serial header on the board.
