Topic: I can't connect to the internet through modem

Hi,

I'm desperately trying to get internet access with a Linksys WRT3200ACM with OpenWRT through a modem. This modem is at address 192.168.2.1, Linksys at address 192.168.1.1. When I connect Linksys to modem, I can see in its WAN interface:

Status

eth0     Uptime: 0h 18m 46s
MAC-Address: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
RX: 40.68 KB (599 Pkts.)
TX: 19.72 KB (296 Pkts.)
IPv4: 192.168.2.12/24

In the WAN interface, I have choosen Protocol Static address, IPv4: 192.168.2.12, IPv4 netmask: 255.255.255.0, IPv4 gateway: 192.168.2.1 .
With my prevoius Synology router and these parameters, I could connect to internet through the modem. With Linksys WRT3200ACM, it's not possible. Is there some parameters I forget.

Can you please help me. Excuse my English. Thanks.

What do you mean by no internet?

Where do you get an error message?

With my computer connected to Linksys WRT3200ACM, I dont't have internet access and I get a yellow exclamation on the network icon. When I use Synology router with same parameters in WAN interface, I have internet access on my computer.

try to do this on your computer

ping 8.8.8.8

You should likely define also DNS server in addition to the gateway. Unless you define that, the 3200ACM has no way to look up domains and clients connected to it get also left DNS-less.

You should probably put 192.168.2.1 there, as the modem likely acts as DNS server. Or input the same ISP server values that the modem has got via DHCP from ISP. (or put some open DNS server)

Thanks for your answer. I have tried 198.168.2.1 and 8.8.8.8 for DNS servers. But it's not working. No way to connect to internet. I wonder if there is not a problem with ExpressVPN firmware (OpenWRT).

have you tried to ping 8.8.8.8?

Yes, ping 8.8.8.8 does not work, neither ping modem IP 192.168.2.1.

Thanks for helping me

I have solved the problem by changing Linksys IP address from 192.168.1.1 by 192.168.100.1. In fact,  any address but 192.168.1.1 (and of course 192.168.2.1 which is modem address) is working.

Did you change the lan or wan ip?

The discussion might have continued from here.
