Topic: Issue with DHCP and Cable Model (WRT54GL 1.1)

Hi,

I have this strange issue with my WRT54GL 1.1 connected to a cable model Motorola SURFBoard 5100.
I'm using witherussian 0.9

1) I leave the modem on all the time
2) I leave the router switched off for a day
3) When I switch on the router, it gets an IP address from the cable modem (Virgin Media UK)
4) After a few minutes the WAN interface does not work any more. I cannot reach internet again. This happens always.
5) I need to switch it OFF and ON once, then it works for days without any problem

Instead of 5) I've tried

a) ifdown wan / ifup wan
b) ifdown wan / unplug cable to the modem / ifup wan
c) soft reboot (from console)

(BTW I kill udhcpc after each faild attempt)

I get always the same answer:

SIOCSIFNETMASK: Cannot assign requested address
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: Cannot assign requested address
info, udhcpc (v0.9.9-pre) started
root@OpenWrt:~# debug, Sending discover...
debug, Sending discover...
debug, Sending discover...
debug, Sending discover...
debug, Sending discover...

forever....

The only strange thing I can notice when it happens is
the flag 0x0 in the connection page.

IP address       HW type     Flags       HW address            Mask     Device
192.168.3.11     0x1         0x2         00:0C:F1:0A:A9:E9     *        br0
82.35.246.1      0x1         0x0         00:0B:FC:44:08:71     *        vlan1
192.168.3.138    0x1         0x2         00:0D:A2:01:49:75     *        br0

I do not remember having this problem when connecting the lapton directly.

What could be different between a) b) c) and a hard reboot?

Thanks

Hi,

I've just had again the same issue.
I will try to explain better what it happens.

When I swtich on my router (WRT54GL v 1.1) after a day is switched off, it gets the IP via DHCP from the cable provider, but
after 5/10 minutes the WAN connection drops.
The only way I can get an IP again via DHCP is a hard power off / on. Then the router works very well.

It could be a problem of the network but

1) my laptop does not have problems
2) power off/on is enough to get the IP again
3) it happens with witherussian 0.9 and linksys stock firmware.
4) I've tried other soft ways

- reboot
- ifdown wan / ifup wan
- killing udhcpc

which all failed.

What can I do to completely reset the DHCP client?

Please, help...

Hi,

same issue with a new cable modem.
Virgin Media gave me a new one. Now it is a WebSTAR EPC2100R2.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my cable-modem model Thomson TCM420. But now there is no posibilities of reloading the openwrt firmware.
