Does anyone know which mini-pci radio cards are compatible with the Asus WL-500gP and openwrt? I tried a Compex Atheros 5006XS AR5414 card without success. Thanks for the help.

Look at the madwifi.org site. I tried Wistron CM9, Gigabyte GN-WI01HT, both work perfect. AFAIK your chipset seems to be unsupported by the HAL.
