I have a Motorola WR850G running DD-WRT v23_sp2_std and I would like to try OpenWRT instead. Everytime I try to it says failed though. What I am trying is to flash it with openwrt-wr850g-squashfs.bin file in the DD-WRT adminstration section of the web GUI.
What am I doing wrong? This really an older spare router I found at work so I am not too afraid of bricking it.

I guess You should try asking about that on dd-wrt forum.
But if You already asked - what is the message/output after You try to upgrade ? I don't use dd-wrt so I can only help with openwrt part of the job.
Also - make sure that You have boot_wait option marked as on. This will help You in case something goes wrong....
