Topic: Swap Utils howto ... ???

The content of this topic has been archived on 19 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hello all.

I just discovered the "Swap-utils" package and installed it under my current WR 0.9 setup.
These utility allow to "set more RAM by using external (USB/MMC...) storage"
But i just can figure out how to use these and found no docs about these ...

Could someone be kind enough to explain how to use these great utils ... ?

Tnx for any hint ...

Noel

Hi

In my case I have plugged USB stick, used fdisk to create partition (for swap You have to change the id: 82 is regular Linux and 83 is swap). Then I had to use package called e2fsprogs to format the stick (I used mke2fs as a file system). Command "mkswap partition" will make an partition avaliable for swap. After that You can simply write in console "swapon partition" and  enjoy extended RAM on Your router.

Success.

Greetings,

Bart

You don't need a swap file, which is why support for it wasn't included.
