Topic: WHITE RUSSIAN (0.9) - WPA2 doesn't work

The content of this topic has been archived on 19 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hi,

I have a WRT54GL with WHITE RUSSIAN (0.9). Moreover I want to secure my wlan with WPA2. But it doesn't work.

Does the wireless-tools (default package) not support WPA2? I have choosen WPA(PSK) and then only the WPA2 and AES feature.

Can anybody help me please?

a lot of greetings from Austria.

Install nas package.

Do I need the nas package or is the wpa-supplicant package enough? I have read that I must uninstall the wireless-tools first!? Is this correct?

Do you have any step-by-step manual? nas is very big and I don't know if I need all the stuff. I just want to have WPA2 PSK (manual key; no radius) feature.

I to just install White Russian and would like to install WPA2. I am a newb so sorry to jump the thread. How do you install an package. I was reading info on the files and found where they are and the information on them. I just do not know how to load them. In the description of the files it say other packages that are needed but I do not know what to do with the file when I download them. Any help would be appreciated.

with ipkg install package_name

with ipkg update you synchronize the package list
and with ipkg list_installed you see all packages installed on your device

Where do you type for example ipkg list_installed. Do I open a dos window or what do I type in somewhere in the router web browser. This is what I do not know. I looked for info for something that is so basic but everywhere I went it assumes I already know how to do this.

use putty.exe to connect to the device (SSH)

I installed putty and ran it. It prompted me for a host name or IP address. I tried Openwrt and I tried 192.168.1.1 both give an error  network error connection refused. The default port is 22. Am I using the wrong port of ip address. I am wired to the router not the wan port in case your wondering.

Maybe you can solve your basic problems more quickly reading the wiki: http://wiki.openwrt.org/

About your specific case:
maybe you haven't your root password set, so you have to use telnet (if you are using Windows, telnet is included, just type "telnet 192.168.1.1" on your prompt command) and type "passwd" to set your root password.

I set the root password in the web gui.

I connected a different laptop to the router and I was able to get a login screen. On the second laptop I was prompted by zonealarm which allowed me to access. On the orginal laptop which also has zonealarm I was not prompted so maybe it is my firewall that is blocking the session on the first computer. It prompts me for a username and then a password. Is this a temporary username and password or is it asking for the same username and password I put in the web gui. I was afraid to enter anything to mess up the password I had setup previously. Nevermind I used the password I setup and I am in. thx

hi,

and after nas-installation it should be working by configuring wpa/wpa2 via webif???

Yes,

ipkg install nas

In the command line after logging in through either ssh or telnet. Or just go under system in the web interface.

You'll have to then configure it to work under WPA1 and WPA2 for it to work.

WPA Supplicant isn't for Broadcom routers (not for WRTs).

I have wpa 2, but in the web gui I have this blue bar at the bottom which underneath apply changes clear changes and reveiw changes. It gets in the way of setting wpa 2 you can barely see where you set it to AES and you can see the password field but you cant see above it. The bar gets in the way and you cant see. Anyway to get rid of this or this a glitch in the gui. I have wpa2 setup now. I did learn how to install and remove a package. Thanks for all of yalls help

thx. now it works. but one one router i had to install it two times. at first time he didn't add the S41wpa file. strange. on the other router it worked at first installation.

but when i use wpa2/aes sometimes the client can't login to the secure wlan. then i must restart the router. but this only occurs when i try to renew the ip on client.

The discussion might have continued from here.
