Hi,

I am on my 2nd webcam trying it to get one to work under WhiteRussian 0.9 on a new ASUS WL-500gP.

dmesg reports...

drivers/usb/spca5xx.c:   SPCA5XX camera found.  Pixart PAC207BCA
drivers/usb/spca5xx.c:  [spca5xx_probe:8380] Camera type GBRG
drivers/usb/pac207.h:  [pac207_config:148]  Find Sensor PA207
drivers/usb/spca5xx.c: [spca5xx_getcapability:2207] maxw 352 maxh 288 minw 160 minh 120

lsusb shows that camera is seen on USB port ... and LED on camera lights

/etc/modules consists of  ...

wl
usbcore
usbserial
usb2
pl2303
videodev
spca5xx
fat
vfat

When I do a  ....  spcacat -d /dev/videoo -g -f jpg -p 10000 -o > /tmp/spcacat.log

spcacat.log contains the following  ...

Spcaview version: 1.1.5 date: 12/12/2005 (c) mxhaard@magic.fr
video  /dev/video0
ERROR opening V4L interface

The webcam is marketed as Micro Innovations IC50C and listed on SPCA5XX site as compatible but I feel I am missing a piece of the puzzle.  Obviously the OS sees it but nothing more it seems.   Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Any way to get a more descriptive error message in spcacat.log?

Thanks,
Rich

"Filename" for that device may be /dev/v4l/video0. Try "ls /dev/video0 /dev/v4l/video0".

You may not be able to use /dev/v4l/video0 directly with spcacat. In that case do "ln -s /dev/v4l/video0 /dev/video0; spcacat -d /dev/video0 . . ." (I'm not too sure abut this, it's been several months since I last played with spca5xx cameras).
