Topic: OpenWRT hardware platform with 2 MiniPCI slots

The content of this topic has been archived on 17 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hello all,

I am looking for an OpenWRT hardware platform that has 2 (or more)
MiniPCI slots. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks very much in advance!
Ron

Routerboard 133 has 3 mini pci slots and sells for $89 US.   However, it only has 175 Mhz mips processor.  It does have 32 mb of ram and 128 mb or storage though.

On the more powerful side the Gateworks 2348-2 has 2 slots, and a 266 Mhz IXP420 processor.   It sells for $180 US.

I'm using ADI Pronghorn Metro (4 mpci) with openwrt for some time without any problem.

We're using ADI Pronghorn Metro for a mesh network (using OLSR) and they work very very well

It's a x86, low power and (hopefully) low price (ALIX.1C is still affordable).

Seriously, why wouldn't anyone just grab a mini ATX x86 board with a low power consumption CPU to do this? All you need is a good case with good power supply.

footprint, close to zero heat, power over ethernet, low power consumption, durability

A small size footprint is probably an issue if that is part of the requirements. Most embedded system is running on a low clock speed, i.e. less than 300MHz. If we build an x86 system using a low-power consumption CPU, like the one for mobile, and lower its clock speed to say 300MHz, then I am sure heat won't be of an issue and the device will consume less power too. As with POE, you can add a POE card to your system.

Thanks rAndy for the link and that is a nice one. The footprint is only a bit bigger than a DVD plastic case.

The discussion might have continued from here.
