Topic: Hardware recommendations for Kamikaze

The content of this topic has been archived on 25 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I had a fantastic experience with White Russian at home and now I'm considering chucking our Cisco router at work (Cisco SDM, ugh) in favor of something running Kamikaze. I've checked the Hardware page on the wiki but all the things that are listed as "supported" seem to be discontinued. Has anyone had success with anything I can currently purchase off Amazon, Newegg, etc? It will raise less eyebrows if the Cisco disappears in favor of something shiny and new than something that came off eBay :-)

All devices listed as "supported" support WhiteRussian.
If you are planning to use Kamikaze, you have to see the devices listed as "Kamikaze". Kamikaze would be tested on each device so listed.

Buffalo WHR-G54S and WHR-HP-G54 run Kamikaze very well.    Both are available from Newegg.

I just bought a shiny, new WRT54GL from ncix.com;  $50 on special, which means it shipped overnight for less money (incl shipping) than for what BestBuy schlepps the lobotomized WRT54GLv5 units.  Ugh and Yay!  I also use the Asus wl500gP units, more recently, and I'm all but moving my entire dozen or so units to the WLs from the WRTs;  they're that good.  I last got one of those a week or two ago.

Of course, if you buy the Linksys WRT55GL units, you'll still be running products sold by cisco...  ;-)

No, seriously:  if you're not sure about the Buffaloes above, really consider the WRT54GL (*L*) or the wl500gP (Premium) units.  I've only had a problem with them when I've crammed too many IPKs on them, and that's easily avoidable.  Try webif2 for the really nice eyecandy.

There.  I even found a new WL at amazon (US$93), which was non-trivial.
