Topic: Dlink DIR-451 DIR-450 is x86

The content of this topic has been archived on 1 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I have a PC Engines Wrap board, so can see how the x86 OpenWRT could be loaded using the HowTo as guidance.

However I can't see how to configure or load x86 on the DIR-45x  router. It is x86 based, PCMCIA, Wifi, ethernet, USB host and internal Serial + Jtag.

I found this:
https://dev.openwrt.org/browser/trunk/t … 0?rev=8790
and
http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/mbm/DIR450.jpg

Is there a way to do this via Dlink's ordinary Web Firmware Updater like on the Linksys or is it a question of Jtag?

The DIR-450 and DIR-451 seem  to be the same product simply with EVDO or 3G firmware. The one I have  has DIR-450 on model label underneath and DIR-451 on front panel.

I'd like to second this question.  I'm completely new to embedded Linux and this type of hardware in general - and I have a 451 to screw up.  Any pointers on where to start?

Be sure I will post if I figure it out.

I'm also looking for same thing. Can't seem to get firmware to update using DLink GUI.

Tried TFTP, but no luck.

If you keep reset button pressed when powering on it bypasses the standard GUI and loads an update.cgi file but still can't load using that.

I'm also new to all this, but looks like fun trying, takes my mind off the climate change summit here in Bali right now.

the openwrt firmware that is flashable via the factory web interface has a 32 byte header on it. This is likely the same deal with the dlink firmware, you can try taking this header from the normal firmware and prepending it to the openwrt trx file.

Tried that, replacing header using a hex editor.

Just in case I'm being REALLY stupid though, which .trx file are you talking about?

There isn't one for download in x86 directory that I can find.

There is firmware downloads to update the DIR-451
I presume though not ending in TRX they have the required header in them as I was able to update the firmware with Dlink download.
But not with any OpenWRT image for x86.

The Dlink updates are on the "normal" support sites, not part of the SDK

Are you saying you have OpenWRT running on your DLINK DIR-451?  If so some explicit instructions would be welcome.

No. I can only load Dlink official firmwares.

The discussion might have continued from here.
