I wonder if it would be possible to modify the forwarding algorithm in any switch or router e.g. from linksys. This would be great for my research in things like spanning tree algorithm.

What hardware (at least 4 ethernet ports) would be the best for that?

What switching hardware is in e.g. Linksys RV082?
Which parts in OpenWrt are responsible for the switching done in e.g. the Linksys RV082?

How does linksys firmware at
