Hello everybody,

I'm present, my name is Augure59 and i'm a boincuser ( in the Alliance Francophone http://www.boinc-af.org ), and i want your help about my projet !

I want to modifie the firmeware of the Fonera, for including the boinc program with a light projet ! we can make a light boinc using in a linux mode .

but we want if this utilisation by the fonera is possible ?

what do you think about ? realisable or not ?

i give you some link :

quantity of RAM used : http://www.boinc-af.org/content/view/147/149/
compatibility projet : http://www.boinc-af.org/component/optio … Itemid,308
link to BOINC : http://boinc.berkeley.edu/index.php

It's a fun idea. But LaFonrea does not have too much cpu resources, isn't it ? :-)

the CPU, run with a linus like program no ? so is x86 compatible !
and the CPU was a 200Mhz ...

In my mind, a light project like can use this power !
if an c2d, send a WU in 10min, and the fonera 1 by day ... imagine 10 000 fonera send 10 000 WU by day !
it's will be amazing for the project smile

I'm afraid just by 1 thing, for reduce the firmare of the fonera, the OpenWrt have been light and have lost some detail who have use for the calcul of the WU !

Do not forget that the Fonera has a MIPS CPU, so you can't just run x86 binaries on it - of course if you have the source for that boinc stuff, you can try to compile it for mips.

Tanks for the reply.
I am another member of the AF team on boinc.

I think this project is not realistic.
It will take too much time to compile and we aren't sure that this CPU can compute floating-point with enough accuracy for scientific project.

Most of these routers do not have a FPU. Floating point calculations are done via software.  They can't even decode an mp3 in realtime without using an integer based decoder.  Any kind of distributed processing on these devices is wasted effort.  These threads (BOINC/SETI/Folding@Home) pop up every so often. I highly doubt most of these projects can do anything useful on a machine with 16MB of ram anyway.

The discussion might have continued from here.
