Basically I want to turn my WRT54GL router into a simple switch. Why? Well, my ISP provides me with all the necessary stuff DHCP, DNS etc.
However, if I just make my WRT54GL a simple switch I will not be able to connect to it any longer. The WRT54GL currently running OpenWRT is basically just another computer, so I'd like it to actually grab it's own IP (much like it does now off the WAN port) but not do any of the routing/NAT part.
I want the best throughput, which I should be able to get. And it's important that the switch works in such a way that the wireless network is bridged with the 4-port built-in switch. Ideally the WRT54GL would grab it's own IP off any wired port for connectivity and administration. It would bridge the wireless and wired ports and use the WAN port for router/NAT stuff, that way if I have any guest computer I don't need to contact my ISP, I can just use the router/NAT features.
I've been poking around the docs and forums for some time without any luck, any help is much appreciated (i know my way around linux and networks).
What I would get is a fully fledge miniature linux computer, doing all my routing/switching as well as any task I chose to code and put on there. Which would be, very cool.
