Topic: Locked Out Of Router

The content of this topic has been archived on 17 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I went and did a update on router and it said out of space.... Now I can not log into the router as my passwd seems not to exist. I did what was told in other posts and redid my pass but it still will not let me in. I have a linksys wrtg54 ver 2 I want to reinstall openwrt and one have an idea how i can do this.

Were you successfully running OpenWrt on the router before?  If so, what version?

If you were not running OpenWrt on the router before, it could be you don't have enough flash or something.  I don't know the wrtg54, and it's not listed on the Table of Hardware.

Have you tried to get into failsafe mode?  If so, what happened when you tried?  Did you get the "Press reset now, to enter Failsafe!" message?

Have you tried flashing via TFTP?  What happened?

Try this:
0) Connect through intermediate switch.  Set PC to static IP address in 192.168.1.x range.
This is to ENSURE that PC always shows link up instead of waiting for it to notice the
router is powered up and making LAN available, which can take too long especially if
boot_wait was not set.
1) Power up
2) Quickly send a TFTP upload attempt

This may take a number of tries but eventually you will hit the timing where
boot-loader stops to accept a TFTP upload.

I find it MUCH simple to connect a serial console.  From the console it takes
10 seconds to put the router in upload mode and fix it.

I got into router and now have the stock linksys firmware on it but want to get whiterussian back on but when i installed it half the features I had before are missing.

The discussion might have continued from here.
