Hello everybody ,
I would like to require some help from the comunity, i didn't manage yet to resolve my problem (perhaps it's even not possible ?), even reading forums, wiki neither the "installation documentation"; so please apologies if my question is not very clear, but i'am a newbee (also in Linux )
Well my problem is that i have a WL500g Asus router where i change the Mini PCI card (because previous card was dead) with a Mini Pci card with a Ralink 2560 chipset (given a friend for free, it's why i didn't took the same model)
I Install X-wrt Kamikaze version /xwrt/kamikaze/7.09/brcm-2.4/openwrt-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx (i have try many firmware before : "olegs firmware from http://wl500g.info/ and classical Kamikaze 7.09 but for a neewbie X-wrt is a great help).
I successfuly install the firmware, i can use SSH, i install the package kmod-rt2500_2.4.34+cvs-2007061115-brcm-1_mipsel.ipk (thanks to http interface) that seems the needed driver for the ralink chip.
My problem is that i don't manage to "set the radio on" of my router, iwconfig oftenly give me "set comand failled" return when i try to configure my interface "ra0" (so for my understanding the driver is loaded and used).
Thanks to this topic http://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=20 i manage to set up the radio, but only in ad-hoc mode with this comand
iwconfig ra0 mode ad-hoc essid myNetID channel 6
After that command this new "Wifi point" is seen from my others wifi computers.
For more information, the file /etc/config/wireless is empty (but i figure that the autoconfiguration on first boot is 'normally' not working); i didn't found a broadcom.sh (in /lib/wifi) for Ralink (perhaps some problems came from there)...
Well, so far i'am stuck here and i would like to ask for any suggestion in order to keep me awake on the subject
As i am not at home writing this message, some informations may not be "complete" please apologies
Thanks in advance
