Topic: HOWTO: nodogsplash on Kamikaze 8.09

I had trouble running nodogsplash on Kamikaze 8.09 and so I thought I would share how I succeeded here, so that I could myself find that documentation later on when I will need to.

There are two issues:

1. the dependencies in the main package are incomplete

This will yield problems such as rulesets not loading and errors with the `-m mark` argument of iptables. The proper packages to load before nodogsplash are:

ip
iptables-mod-extra
iptables-mod-imq
iptables-mod-ipopt
kmod-ipt-extra
kmod-sched
tc

2. The init script is badly broken.

This shows up as a parse error, mainly. You can use the script found in http://kokoro.ucsd.edu/nodogsplash/nodo … 9.3.tar.gz

An alternative approach suggested in this comment was to first install the latest package (which doesn't work because it's not compiled for Kamikaze), keep a copy of the init.d script, uninstall it and reinstall the older version. It looks something like this:

opkg install http://kokoro.ucsd.edu/nodogsplash/latest.ipk
cd /etc/init.d
mv S65nodogsplash nodogsplash
cd /etc/rc.d
ln -s /etc/init.d/nodogsplash S65nodogsplash
mv /etc/nodogsplash /etc/nodogsplash.orig
opkg remove nodogsplash
opkg install nodogsplash
mv /etc/nodogsplash.orig /etc/nodogsplash

Then you probably want to peruse /etc/nodogsplash/nodogsplash.conf which should be self-documenting. You can also edit the splash page people are going to see in /etc/nodogsplash/htdocs/splash.html.

Have fun!

Edit: actually, only iptables-mod-extra and iptables-mod-ipopt are required for the basic setup. The rest if for traffic shaping and things like that.

I'm spending somthing like 15 hours around this kind of problems....

The purpouse was to set a static splash page, without login, for users that connect to my network....First i spent a lot of time with nocatsplash (full of bugs...) then with wifidog...but it needs radius server...finally i've tried with nodogsplash, and it works (seems) ok.

The only problem is that i can't configure auto start up with init.d..
Tried with the file linked above, but still nothing.

The current file is:

But i need always to start manually the service each reboot!!!!

I got this error, too. Any solutions please.

May be, it already (silently) exited, because some network resource not ready, when started from /etc/init.d.
So, I would first try the "Last Weapon of a desperate Programmer": A wait/sleep for 30s or so in the init script.
OR
start a background job from /etc/rc.local, which in turn starts nodogsplash after 30  seconds sleep.
