Topic: 8.09.1 images for brcm47xx incorrect (not 8.09.1)?

The content of this topic has been archived on 24 Mar 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

The release notes for 8.09.1 say that it's revision r16278, but when I grab the image from
http://downloads.openwrt.org/kamikaze/8 … uashfs.trx
and flash it to my wrt54gs, luci says that I have revision r16206 and /etc/openwrt-version
says 8.09 not 8.09.1.

What's more, there does not appear to be a b43 module in the image... it's not in /lib/modules,
and the router comes up without a wifi interface.

Read the release notes. First point in the list of changes....

I guess you must be referring to this:

release.txt wrote:

broken mac80211 drivers removed, updated versions will be available in next release

Not exactly very specific if you don't know in advance which mac80211 drivers are broken.
What's more, the other release notes at https://dev.openwrt.org/milestone/Kamikaze 8.09.1,
which are otherwise more extensive and which are the ones pointed at in the interim release
announcement, do not mention this.

Also what about the mismatched revision #s?  Is it just that LuCI is reporting its own
revision # rather than looking at the core of openwrt?  Is there some other way to see
what revision an installed openwrt image came from?

The documentation for OpenWrt has gone downhill a bit.

In the past I would've checked the wiki for my specific model of router (WRT54GS in my case) and found various notes for my particular hardware.  At the moment I have to hunt around for various little comments in the release notes which relate to my platform, these notes always use obscure hardware numbers (b43, brcm47xx, etc).

The discussion might have continued from here.
