I am  relatively a newbie on openwrt  and hence the question may sound absurd for the pros here.

I downloaded the source for 8.09 and saw in the make file that for wireless mac80211  support, compat-wirless-2008-06 version is being used.

The Makefile in the package/../mac80211 directory indicates that download this older version. But this older version is outdated and i want to update it to new release.
How exactly to do that without running into errors?
I tried to modified the makefile to get June 2009 package but i had problem with patches.

pointers/ideas??
