seems this has been a recurring issue, usually related to uClibc so I will post this independent of a particular package (to help searches).

here is what I am receiving as output:

sed: error while loading shared libraries: /var/forge/workingcopies/openwrt/trunk/build_dir/toolchain-armeb_gcc-4.3.3+cs_uClibc-0.9.30.1/gcc-4.3.3-final/./gcc/libgcc_s.so.1: ELF file data encoding not little-endian
make[5]: *** [configure-target-libgcc] Error 1
make[5]: Leaving directory `/var/forge/workingcopies/openwrt/trunk/build_dir/toolchain-armeb_gcc-4.3.3+cs_uClibc-0.9.30.1/gcc-4.3.3-final'
