Topic: PPTP connection problems

The content of this topic has been archived on 19 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hello,

I'm using the WRT54GL router (v1.1) + Kamikaze v8.09.1, my ISP is AON (Telekom Austria). I installed the PPTP package and did the following configuration using LuCI:

In Network -> General:
Protocol: PPTP
Username: <the number provided by the ISP>
Password: <my pwd>
Clamp Segment Size: checked
automatically reconnect: checked
disconnect when idle for: 0
PPTP-Server: 10.0.0.138

It basically works fine, but if I disconnect the router from the power supply (and reconnect it again) I can't connect to WAN anymore (the LuCI network status part for WAN shows some kb data transmitted, but 0 received).
The funny thing about this is if I i change some stuff in the PPTP settings (e.g. change the "disconnect when idle for" property) and press the save button it works fine after that, but if I disconnect the router from the power supply again the same problem occurs.

I checke the system log, which says:

Thanks!

Have you found any solution for this ? I planning to flash a router on a remote site with openwrt, isp would be the same!

My experience with openwrt routers and AON routers says: let the AON router do the PPTP connection, its much more stable and reconnects do work faster.

MMCM, what would you suggest as setup ? Let the Speedtouch 510 do the (re)connection, the nat, port forwardings. On the openwrt set a lan ip and a gateway ip that points to the speedtouch ? Or ist ist better to use speedtouch -> dmz > openwrt ?

Thanks in advance!

Exactly.

I usually let the adsl modem/router do the connection and forward all traffic to the openwrt router using a fixed ip (dmz function, or whatever, it depends on the adsl modem/router). Dyndns should be on the adsl modem/router too, if it does support it. Since speedtouch 510 does not support dyndns, I have a cron job running every minute on openwrt, which gets the public ip via snmp from the speedtouch and updates dyndns accordingly.
So we have a cascaded nat configuration, but I never had problems with it.

Ok, then im going for the dmz option! Do you have any good ressources on howto configure the st510 as router ? I havent found anything useable in the webinterface itself, and the telnet menu seems to be rather complicated!

The 'ddns-scripts' package in the openwrt repositority has an option to retrive the ip via a php script, im going to is this if it works. MS knowledge of snmp is rather limited!
