Topic: Help on Wl-500gp to control a photocam

Hello boys, I'm an italian user and I don't speak english veri well...

So, I want to use a photocamera as a Webcam (as Canon Powershot for example), but I need a wireless connection to my router DG834G...
I need that the Canon take a photo every tot second automatically and then, automatically, the photo is put on web...

I think that I can use a Wl-500gp to do this, installing in it Gphoto (or another programme to use the photocam) and a programme to manage the FTP connection...

But I have never used a Unix-based system and I work with a Windows XP PC...

Nobody can help me?

Enrico

Hello Enrico,

I can tell you that that is indeed possible, works well and is not really hard compared to other applications.
Compared with a 'webcam', you'll get brilliant pictures even with a old 3MP powershot.

However, if you never used unix or something similar, you're in for a steep learning curve.
gphoto is the way to go, most powershots work, see their website for compatibility.

Then get the hardware, install openwrt, connect your powershot, and play around with gphoto.

You'll need to write a short script for the automatic upload.

I can answer specific questions on this.

Have fun, and good luck!
Jo

Thanks a lot Jo...

So, these passages are difficult for me "install openwrt, connect your powershot, and play around with gphoto."... Ehm... Are almost all!

What I have to do to install Openwrt on the Wl-500gp?

I will recive this router in the next days!

Thanks!
