Topic: Linksys E2100L is here, has anybody tried it out.

The content of this topic has been archived between 19 Apr 2018 and 4 May 2018. Unfortunately there are posts – most likely complete pages – missing.

Thanks a lot, when i get home i'll try this build.
I'll be informing.

I'm trying the new jim-release, and till now, is working FINE... perfect streaming, and also i'm using transmission-daemon/web for downloading...

I hope this continues... :-)

Can anyone confirm the jim release comes with packetfence?

I have to admit I had never heard of packetfence until your posting.  Unless it is in the basic source or part of a package I did include in the builds I would have to say no.  I changed routers and haven't been following Openwrt in the last month or so.

Jim

I had already found the packetfence information via a Google search and I can safely say it was not included.  After a bit of more in depth reading it's probably not something I would build even I were still using the E2100L router.  In reading the documentation it looks like you could force feed the required ipk's.  I'm not sure how much space they require, my later builds were in the upper 6 to 7Mb range.  That leaves 1Mb for any added packages.  If  you want a more recent, smaller build, I could compile one without minidlna or ushare that should leave plenty of room.  I still have my E2100L router for a backup so can do a test install to make sure the router won't brick.

Jim

Testing in Production

I had an awfully bad experience yesterday.

After running stable on r38744 for months I decided to upgrade to r399930, only to find the wifi bugged out after a few hours.

So I downgraded by pushing the previous release, which failed and was followed by many hours of downtime while I searched for my console cable. Which pin goes where? Win8.1 needs a driver for this? Lesson learned...next time buy two routers and reserve one for testing.

So what is everyone else running?

@v.90   I did a quick search for the WRT160NL which is pretty much identical and came up with this link with a picture that shows the pinouts.

http://netphy.wordpress.com/2011/04/17/ … ia-serial/

I think you could find others as well.  The one I had bookmarked now requires you to set up an account to view the entire article, but it was a good one.  Looks like a free signup

http://www.scribd.com/doc/45153518/wrt160nl-debrick

I no longer have the E2100L, gave it to my brother-in-law 2 weeks ago after moving to the Netgear 6300v2.  I hadn't upgraded the E2100L since early December since it was stable with Attitude Adjustment r388863.

Just curious when are they going to add this in to the main trunk since it is working?
And  is there a trunk version available 4 to 5 MiB in size available somewhere?

Can anybody help me to find an Openwrt updated firmware for muy E2100L router? I'm using Jimfree revision of AA and couldn't find barrierbreaker (at openwrt.org page only wrt160nl firmware exists). Thanks in advance.

@graanco, It doesn't seem hopeful that the E2100L will be included in the standard openwrt builds.  I still have my build environment but I don't have the E2100L to test any builds on.  If you are prepared to test a build I'll compile a basic no frills firmware for you to try from trunk which is BarrierBreaker.  I would recommend that you have a serial cable handy just in case it doesn't fly right.

@Dunedain, if you try the basic trunk build and it works for you let me know what you want added and I'll try to build it for you.

I'll let you know when I finish the compile and upload the bin.

For those brave souls out there wanting the latest version of openwrt BarrierBreaker I have posted a freshly compiled basic version with only Luci added.  It can be found at my ususal dumping grounds for openwrt builds which is https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4o42mc4zafxny/Openwrt.  The file name to look for is untested-openwrt-E2100L-BB_r41988-squashfs-factory.bin

The usual caveats apply, more so in this case since I don't have a test E2100L to try it on.  Be sure to uncheck the keep settings box and start fresh.

I compile a couple on mine but I been away so, I am going to jump on the untested...

Side note, what is the max devices that this device can handle?

It appears to be a good build! TY!!

Hey could you send me your build config... I want to use it to build the 160 model... I like how you have it..

I'm glad to hear that the build was a good one.  I was 99.9% sure it was but without testing there is always that little doubt.  Here is the .config for that build.  Well that won't work, it exceeds the size limit for the post.  I posted it to my MediaFire along with the builds I have there.  It is titled WRT160NL.conf.  The direct link is http://www.mediafire.com/view/ow49qogj9 … 0NL.config

Good luck!

I'm trying to make a surveillance IPCAM of sorts out of a USB webcam and an E2100L. I apologize if posting full DMESG and opg list-installed is frowned on, Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

I'm using jimfree BB..r4188 build.

It's been a rough and tumble fight that I'll tell y'all about when it's over.  Mostly involved invoking opkg with --force-depends and flipping between /packages/packages and /base/packages in the /etc/opg.conf file.

I've got almost everything working, or at least error-free: loads most of the video stuff, and recognizes when a camera is plugged in or removed.

But ultimately it never creates the /dev/v* device(s). That may be something obvious I'm missing, like editing a conf file or rc file.

Or it may have to do with the "Unknown symbol" messages I'm getting. In any case they are unnerving:

[   10.940000] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[   10.950000] videobuf2_core: Unknown symbol dma_buf_get (err 0)
[   10.960000] videobuf2_core: Unknown symbol dma_buf_put (err 0)
[   10.960000] videobuf2_core: Unknown symbol dma_buf_fd (err 0)
[   10.970000] videobuf2_core: Unknown symbol dma_buf_get (err 0)

This post would seem to have something to say about it:

http://code.google.com/p/openwrt-on-dir … tail?id=16

... but I think I'm having trouble following the advice because of the squashfs issue: pkgs marked as "Hold".

What's to do? Is there a quick fix?

Is it likely I'll have better luck with a jimfree AA or other build? I'll probably mess with that while waiting for answers here.

Or should I start with a better (trunk) supported router?

Here is dmesg output followed by opkg list-installed:

Thank you again for any advice you can offer!

I don't know of any better build than his. And if it see the camera when plugged then you should have the /dev... it might be labeled something.....

Okay for me I was wondering if anyone knows if they fixed the plan issues with this chipset...??

Wow, it looks like a lot has changed over the course of a year. I am wondering if any seen any improves on this device with the latest trunk build. (Really curious if they got the RTL8306SD vLan id fixed)

Good luck!

Sorry to bother you Jim. I´m trying to mount a partitioned HDD (10GB in ext3 and 900 in NTFS) but can´t do it... i instaled last realise of yours... it doesnt came with auto mount... -_-'

thank for any advice

No bother.  That build was a "no frills added" except for Luci.  As old as it is it is no surprise none of the packages want to install.  That was the last time I compiled anything.  I'm in the process of updating from svn and will compile another "full featured" build.  Keep in mind I have nothing to test it on though.  It will probably be late tomorrow before I'll have anything.  If you want give me a list of the packages you need and I'll be sure to include them.  If you don't want a dlna package I'll leave it off.  My first build will be mainly to make sure nothing has broken in the compile process.

Oh, thanks.
I think i can install the usual transmission, samba and minidlna once i can mount the hdd...

Have a nice day

OK, between the menuconfig and compile process it quite a while to come up with a bin.  Its been a long while since I last updated from svn.  The compile completed without errors.  I did have some errors during the menuconfig dealing with "oldpackages"  perl modules.  Since I didn't include any perl modules I'm sure its OK.  This is the latest release from trunk as of last night (r45369), now called Chaos Calmer.  Again, I no longer have the E2100L so no way to test this myself.  I added in Luci, minidlna, transmission, usb storage, ntfs-g and samba since you mentioned those.  I've uploaded it to the usual MediaFire share, https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4o42mc4zafxny/Openwrt so give it a shot and see if it works for you.  Again, just be aware it isn't tested.

Thanks a lot. I will try it along today ... I'll inform results

Hi Jim, sorry to continue bothering, but mount didn´t work... router dont link to my ext3 partition, neither my NTFS one.

I´ll be continue trying,

Sorry about that.  I must have failed to add a needed package.  I'll check and add anything missing and compile a new one for you.  I'll let you know when I upload a new bin.

The discussion might have continued from here.
