Hi all,

When i try to Put OpenWRT on my WL-500g router via. tftp, then i every time gets a timeout.
Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem so i can get OpenWRT on my WL-500g Router?

Sincerly,

Jan

Yes i did follow that guide on openwrt.org, and i tryed to upload via. 192.168.1.1 page with firmware upgrade (is that what you mean with Asus firmware Restoration Utility?)..........

Sincerly,

Jan

No - the restoration utility is a piece of windows software found on the ASUS CD that came with your router.

Upgrading to OpenWRT using the webinterface will NOT work.

I have made an installation and setup tutorial for OpenWRT (which is actuately made using an Asus) here: http://www.macsat.com/OpenWRT/InstallOpenWRT.php

Hi again,

Thanks for the answers, smile
I tryed the cd restoration now, but it only sayes that it cant find any device.....
I also tryed to tftp from my Linux PC and Windows Laptop, both gave me a time-out message sad
(I try with: tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT openwrt-brcm-2.4-jffs2-4MB.trx)

I know i am pluged in since i have web acces, can it maybe something with the tftp function of the router or firmware that needs a upgrade?!?

PS. macsat, I have seen you website before, it is a great source for pepole like me smile

Sincerly,

Jan

Did you push and hold the reset buttom while plugging the ASUS to power?

This should enable tftpd.

If you have olegs firmware, you can log in with telnet/ssh and check if boot-wait is enabled :

nvram show | grep "boot_wait"

Hi macsat,

Thanks for the answer.....
I tryied to reset the router like you said, it did not work with tftp, but it did work with the restoration utility smile
But then i got a even bigger problem, the OpenWRT software is installed, and when i try to SSH (with putty) in it ask me for a username and passwd?!? (even the first time).
I have not made a username or a passwd, so i dont know what to write......The version i installed is openwrt-brcm-2.4-jffs2-4MB.trx.
I also look in your guide and can se that you write that first time it should not ask for a passwd or username........I have tryed with root, root or admin, admin but none of these works sad
Do you know what to do when it does this?

Sincerly,

Jan

first time you need to use telnet, not ssh.

Okay, I tried to telnet in, but when i did that it tells me that there are no host or no route to host at 192.168.1.1, even when i try to ping it with: ping -t 192.168.1.1 it teels me that there no host (i even tried to ping for over 15 min. but same answer).

Sincerly,

Jan

hy, i have almost the  problem like jan,  i cant flash the asus. i've tried everything that was written on openwrt-docs and macsat-doc, using both linux ubuntu and windows xp.
i even tried firmware restoration from the asus cd... once it tried to flash but after a few second it stopped and said : no devices found.
jan how did you make it with firmware restoration?

if anyone knows.... smile
