Oh that's quite funky! A clever little "character" which can be copyrighted - and which pertains directly to OpenWrt as a "brand".

Very clever!

C.

I didn't really care much for either of the previous entries, but NiKO's (post #150) gets my vote!

Very pretty.

I really love NiKO's one.
Perhaps add eyebrows or something to the "OP" so the characters eyes and nose is more visible.

Thumbs up for #150!
It somehow reminds me of a certain character from www.penny-arcade.com... Hint: It loves to "consume" oranges ;)

hey master, its nice to see you back! hope you had a happy thanksgiving as you seem according to "belly full of turkey" description...did you knew that W not, wireless, but Bush "saves" the life of the best turkey every year...is'nt that hilarious?, the rest are eaten..and W is the savior. what a crazy rite. maybe we can try a logo with a Turkey since there are so many animals in FLOSS logos....

and yea the red circle one, that reminds both Openness and the wireless range, will be changed soon into something similar to an emblem...i will try something in blender, i think thats more leet and i have the impression it will be closer to what "everyone" here likes...

so, thanks to RockyGryphons return to the posts i will do one more logo to my sensei.

The food and eating theme seems to be running rampant.  Perhaps grass-hopper alej00d must take a break from turkey leftovers to relish in the drooling hunger for more logos.  Funny, that Niko's character seems to have big eyes, perhaps from being caught with the towel open after stepping out of the shower.  I think perhaps it would be better if like dd-wrt, mbm posted a picture of himself for everyone to base the logo on and make his eyes into the op or maybe the logo should just be a picture of his head.  I'm sure it is big enough after the countless pleadings of aspiring and master artists alike to gain attention and consideration in this "contest" which seems to have become more of a creativity expose'.  Well, in the interest of furthering the competition and fanning flames of creativity, I submit yet another fabulous brainstorm of eloquent magnificence:

of course, I rest assured that the final decision will be the following unsurpassed masterpiece of which hath you never recovered your breath upon seeing, you would be revived from the great inner beauty that gives Medusa life.

p.s. oh yes, (like that rhyme?) I just realized that the Niko logo actually does not have visible eyes or a nose, those are located at the top of that long, ET-like structure of a neck, what you see is actually a... well I hope it's actually just a pair of nipples.  umm... I guess there may be something to be said about subliminal message advertising, but I think that would mostly appeal to women and uh, well just look for yourself below:

RockyGryphon -

No more scribbles please. From this point on I'm only going to accept serious entries -- anything considered to be trolling or joking will be deleted, without further warning.

Sorry I've been absent, my laptop (Imprimis) got stolen out of my car.

The only thing I still had was the source art for the last submission I made (the one with the arrows).

Hello,
I saw your comment well.
Here two new logos.
The version with eyebrows :

A version shark :

Sorry I speak very badly English, so thank you Google.
On standby of your comments.

Good day has all.

Excellent logos!

I hope you enjoyed my comments.

That shark is a fresh new idea and resembles the letters O, P and e.  It might be a good symbol for OpenWrt.

Good day to you!

I await more logos.

p.s. You can translate english with the web page below too.

bonne chance!

OK, this is the first one to be made in Inkscape.  It's a lot more flexible than Paint Shop Pro.

One laptop down, and my new Secure Easy Pizza scripts up, and I'm back in it!

OK, going a new direction with these.

i love the logos NiKO has made. i seem to like the version without the eyebrows better though. the eyebrows just kinda seem out of place. besides that, it may give someone the "oh neat" surprise that the "op" in openwrt is actually the character's face if they don't notice it at first.

Here's my submission. I think a simple monospaced font like Bitstream Vera Sans Mono looks great, sort of ties in with the whole CLI thing. Also, I know that the wireless arc things are really overused, but due to the wireless nature of OpenWrt, I think it's hard to represent that fundamental part without something like the cliché arcs. And the hammer is supposed to represent, you know, a tool. or something. It was drawn without any reference, so it may look kind of goofy; I could make adjustments to its shape.

Any feedback is very welcome.

I really liked nouki's background, so I made it into a logo itself.

My logo was for fun... but people has no comment on it...

Maybe on a next try !

I'm another Niko fan.  The red ball guy is neat!

I'd like to see more submissions from him, actually.  The red ball is quite good, if that's what the team wants to portray with their logo (it's lighthearted and cute).  However, if I were making decisions for my project, I would call for changes on the little ball guy so that he could stand alone.  As it is, the 'O' and the 'P' for his face make sense, but only when next to the text.  Logos have to be able to stand alone apart from any text unless it's very specifically part of the structure of the logo (like SUN's logo, for instance), and including all of that text on -say- a business card, would be a little awkward.

If you put the little ball guy on his own, it just says "OP", which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  If it was something like "OR" or even just "O", it might.  The shark, on the other hand, while a little cutesy for me personally, stands alone perfectly and would be a combination of a logo AND a mascot.

I need to jump back into this game soon.  These kids are making me look bad...

tonym:  That is what I call a logo. Really nice work! Great to not have text in the logo: Foreigners will still make sense of it and should the project rename itself (when there is more hardware and the compatible wrt's are getting sparser) there won't be a problem with the logo.

So did the red ball without eyebrows win?  That "op" does make a nice face.  No more entries? Do I have to risk getting booted and banned with some more of my artistic mastery which creates fear in the leaders for the great amount of responsibility of harboring such fantastic phenomenom as which will never be recreated in anyway near as such anyone could imagine again.  I am afraid alej00d will have to take over the flame from the torch I have to relinquish to the loyal prodigy whose promising career as a blemishing artist will arise from the ashes of the opened wrt boxes.

yoo master, i think im unable to do logos for teenagers, i dont like those bubblegummy logos i have to say it... im far from having the touch NiCO has, i have no package for making all those 3d effects and im still testing in black and white, so i guess im off and pay respect to nicos work that gather so much attention, but still as i understant the silence of MBM the logo is not here yet. I truly will like to see your proposals i have a very strong image of the surfer one, fantastic...a shame that it crosses so many borders and everyone gets so afraid of them.. i have to say i love the idea of using "scribbles" in any project.. it goes with my humor and way of looking at everything mass media related.

anyway i had this ones, they are also in process, far from finished and as said above they lack those little cartoon caracthers that everyone loves so much in the opensource world.

if i get a chance i will download a propietary software called painter and try that way, since till now im more in the gimp and related area.

cheers, nice meals and good drinks!

I vote for #150 minus the reflections.

Well, since my first draft doesn't meet mbm's requirement ("don't use radio waves" wink) I made another draft...

For the sake of completeness - the very first logo:

And the new one(s):

You want perspective? Eat this:

These, especialy the 2D, looks very professional.
After this logo I have a feeling, that there is a professional company running behind the project and that it realy does what I expect (as a matter of fact it does :-).
The Perspective and the first one seem a little boring to me, but the rest...
I vote for the green one, but the grey will look great also in printed form.
Very good peace of artwork, cyphem. If I had a hat... :-)

divefox.net is fixed, so my historical entries should work again, barring 1&1 smegging up my hosting again.

ok, just catching this thread.  Here are my 10-minute submissions (sounds like last night's date)

The discussion might have continued from here.
