Topic: Why does AP vs Client mode bridge with different MAC addresses?

The content of this topic has been archived on 19 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

When setup in AP mode arping's from wireless to wired and vice versa return the MAC of the NIC belonging to the IP I arping.

But when setup in client mode arpings from wireless side to wired side return the MAC of the wireless NIC in the linksyswrt54G, why is that?

This is because the way WiFi works, it mixes different networking layers. Have a look at this post:

You'll get an idea how it works, at least it helped me to understand better.

Thanks. Reading up on it now.
