It can be replaced by b44 driver.
great! is there anything else preventing the 2.6 kernel version of openwrt from running on the asus wl500gd?
A lot, f.e. board-specific fixes, mtd driver, and so on.

is anyone working on these things? I don't have kernel programming experience, but am versed in C. I'd like to try my hand at helping this along.
Are there any binary-only module or tools needed for OpenWRT? If yes, are there harware versions (Linksys, Netgear, ASUS,...) where we have sources for everything and do not need binary drivers/tools?
