Topic: Locked out of router (TP-LINK TL-WR841ND V3.4)

The content of this topic has been archived on 5 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I, somehow, managed to forward all the packets coming from the WAN port to the LAN ports. Now the router acts like a simple network hub and I'm unable to login to the web ui. WiFi is also disabled.

I tried entering into failsafe to no avail. I also tried poking the serial port which also failed (I couldn't get ANY data). What else should I try? Every information I could find was about other TP-LINK TL-WR841ND versions (I used V3.0 info for the serial port). This is all I could find:

Thanks.

Hello fyi,

I tried to enter failsafe several times. Failsafe on those routers works by holding the QSS button until the System LED starts flashing faster than normal. Everything is fine (the LED starts blinking faster) but 192.168.1.1 is not pingable. I also tried LAN and the WAN port and waited 5+ minutes to be sure the router had booted. I tried several times, just to be sure.

The next step is to find the TTL serial interface. There is no information for my board version. Under the unit it reads V3.4. There are pads like this one (V7.2):

but it also has some resistors that are missing, like this one (V3.2):

I have soldered the pads, should I also try to bridge the resistors?

I'm using a TTL shifter.

EDIT: I soldered wires before the missing resistors and everything went fine. Thanks!
