If I install a serial port on 2 wrt54g's is it then possible to send serial data between 2 devices wirelessly?

Have a look at netcat.
Looks promising, but since I'm not a Linux/hardware Guru could you please help me to understand what modifications will be needed on the WRT54G?
Will I need to add an SD card?
Can all versions of the WRT54G be used?
Are there any tutorials to the hardware modifications?
Which software pacages do I need to install (and how)?

I don't do hw mods, sorry. Tutorials are in the documentation, though. The only thing you probably have to install (apart from netcat) are the serial port drivers.
