Hi everyone,

I installed OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment 12.09-rc1 on TP-Link TL - WRT841N V8. Everything is ok, but I can not do DLNA from PC to TV. Also programs like vuze, emule soulseek neither work well.
Before, with the original firmware, all this worked perfectly.

I have tried stopping the firewall of the router from putty, but when I stop I can´t connect to internet.

any help?

Sorry for my English. Thanks.

This is most likely because you don't have UPnP installed and enabled by default and the stock firmware did. Without UPnP all P2P software can't forward a port by itself. This results in less available possible peers - you can't communicate directly with other peers without forwarded port. To "fix" this, follow this page: http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/upnp

Hi everyone, first of all great forum u do such a good job!

I have a few Problems with my tp 841nd v.8.1...

Yesterday i bought 2 tp 841.
Main Problem
i flashed openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr841n-v8-squashfs-factory.bin by the webinterface (luci).
Everything works great. i wanted to use the TP as a router to extend WLAN.
Under the Wifi section i can Join my Root AP successfuly. Also the Ip ranges are set.
Then i tried to add a new virtual Network to reach the TP from other devices. But i couldn/t enable it.
Under Wifi there are 2 entrys 1 Root AP and 2 own Virtual Network. Only the 1 (root AP) is enabled.

Can someone tell me the steps how to set up a tp (in luci webinterface)
1) as repeater (wirelessly connected to main AP and so that clients can connect to TP)?
2) as wired Access point (wired connection to main AP, clients can connect to TP-Link through Lan and WLAN)?

I tried to figure it out for my own, but nothing doesnt work!

Perhaps someone can help me - greetings!

Problem: Bricked TP-Link 841nd v8.1
P.S.: 2. Problem. I tried to flash back via Webinterface to the original firmware. There came a notification up, that says the file was to big (3,9 MB instead of 3,5). I said Proceed. Now one of my TP link routers is brick! :-(
The Power LED blinks 1 time and then all other LEDs 1 time and again and again ...
I cannot do a Ping. 30 30 30 reset doesnt work for me. I tried to connect to the internal connection via this method: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=33906 (but my serial usb cabel only got red white GREEN and black wires, so no blue) and the platine layout of the v8.1 has a bit changed. So no success. Perhaps someone got an idea to Debrick the one Device.
For the other device i will try it with open WRT.

hey, i bricked my v8 too and now im not sure if i can solder serial same way like this https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=33906

cause my serial port looks like this:
http://78.47.18.221/~quake2/2013-03-10%2014.05.44.jpg
i think it should same way like on the other board, but i think its better to ask here before do anything bad. i get my serial nokia cable tomorrow, so i cant say whats the color of this.

sure, Pin1 (Router TX, that goes into adapter RX) is the one with the white square, the others (bottom to top) are RX, GND, VCC.

DO NOT CONNECT VCC wink

Hey thank u very much for the answers!

@ mezo, my board looks excactly like yours
@nebbia: pin 1 (tx) is clear, but why are u so sure about rx, vnd and vcc?

@ Cable: why do so many use the nokia cable? i have a usb cable wich have 4 wires (red, white, black and green) - can i use that? do i need a driver for windows?
If i plug it in, there comes unknown device in the hardware manager...

greetings

P.S.: i have the access point setup with the stock firmware running.
perhaps someone can write the stepts to setup as a repeater over luci webinterface i have done the following.
1. change lan adresse to same subnet as root ap
2. change gateway and dns to root ap
3. join the wlan of root ip (wifi -> search -> join)
4. disabled dhcp
5. tryed to add another virtual wifi network, but i dont manage it, that both wifi networks (the joined from root ap, and ther virtual one) work at the same time together (i cant enable the virtual one)

hm tx to rx and rx to tx?

Because the pin order has always been like that on dozens of tp-link models..

Tobias, the nokia cable is a usb to ttl serial converter, not a simple cable!

Hi Guys!

Do anybody know an unpublished USB port on V8.1. Is it possible to mod the hardver just like on older release?

There is USB port pins on chipset, but physical connection to them almost impossible, so just forget about it smile

By the way, does somebody have success with VLAN tagging. I try different configs but without luck sad I want make VLAN1 from WAN go to physical ports 1,2,3 (internet service) and VLAN6 from WAN to port 4 (IPTV service). After different configurations can't access router, also noservices on 1-4 ports. Back to life (defaults), only by erasing data partition with telnet in recovery mode. Maybe somebody can share similar working config?

HeI have a router v8.3, I soldered the wires so, putty does not work (the router power on or off?), test board PL2303 "tx", "rx" normal data transmission.
Please help !!!

And for everyone interested.

NEW FIRMWARE for TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND v8.x

Here is a new OpenWRT build for TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND v8.2. It works OK. It should work with v8.0 too, because they have the same hardware. Version is trunk r35421 (Barrier Breaker). This build includes LuCI (the web interface).

If you have the original factory firmware in your router, flash the file with "factory" in the filename. If you already have OpenWRT and only want to update, flash the file with "sysupgrade" in the filename. You can do that from the web interface in both cases.

Factory: http://www.fastshare.org/download/openw … _35421.rar

Sysupgrade: http://www.fastshare.org/download/openw … _35421.rar

I hope this helps!

Worked great for me. I used the squashfs version via WEB UI on a new wr841 v8.2.

Thanks

Hi,

just flashed newest firmware on my 841n (v8.0)

http://www.fastshare.org/download/openw … _35421.rar

Runs very smooth, but I have a problem with wifi speed.
Max speed is 130Mbit/Sec.

Does anybody has this issue ?
Greetings

hey im a new to the openwrt so i want the latest firmware for wr841nd v8.1 that has web interface (luci) preinstaled so i can work from there thanks allot !

Hello,

I also got a V8.1 WR841ND from my reseller. Now I need the newest (stable) version of OpenWRT for V 8.1 with luci preconfigured/installed.

Can please anyone upload the newest file for V 8.1?

Thank you in advance!

Edit - this build seems to have problems, so I deleted the files. For the time being it's better to stick to the tried & tested one that can be found here: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php … 34#p190634,
or the new (still untested) version found here: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php … 83#p196683

You have to flash the .bin files.

I hope this helps. Please report about problems or success, so I can edit this post accordingly.
