no idea if this will be based on the same platform or not but we'll know soon.

According to the register this router will only be available in the US *grrrrr*
Otherwise I'd wait to buy a new -GS model.
photos of the hardware are available here (Kaloz on irc looked these up):

this does not look the same. A Marvell based system rather than broadcom.
Unlikely to run anything worthy of discussion in these forums.
[edit] weird, the url above used to work. anyways the same photos and info were used on
For those of you wondering what those two RJ11s are, they are two SEPARATE FXS ports, to be used via SIP/STUN. They both support G.711u, G.711a, G.726-40, G.726-32, G.729, G.726-24, G.726-16, and G.723.

URL doesn't seem to work for me.
Anyway, it's a bit of a bummer that we won't be able to (ab)use it, it'd be nice to play with VoIP with this hardware. Oh well, it's only to be sold in the US anyway, no use for me :-)

So, it seems to be on the market now, also in Oz:

Has anybody played with it, recently? Can it be found unlocked? And, most importantly, is anybody porting OpenWRT to it?

what you mean with unlocked? I have one on my desk and it was not locked somehow. WRT54GP2 is marwell based chipset not broadcom and is very hard to port openwrt on this. Inside is RTL8019AS (network) and ESS Visba3 (sound processor) chips. Nothing more exciting. Only positive thing is that it support SIP and works with open source Asterisk PBX.

All the offers I've found around (at least for the US market) mention that the product is tied to either a Vonage or an AT&T Callvantage subscription. And at http://www.voipsupply.com/product_info. … cts_id=419 there is a truculent warning against end users who might sneakily try to buy a WRT54GP2-NA model while pretending to be "qualified service providers"...

Too bad, it could be a nice product to supply both voice and data connectivity to office desks with zero wiring requirements (apart from the power sockets).

i live in europe, and got WRT54GP2-EU version. This was a only option in store, so i think the locked versions and these "beware warnings" is for US market only. I got unlocked PAP2-NA from same place with no questions asked. Maybe i look like "service provider"?

Here in Hong Kong I haven't seen it yet. Online, I've now found also some offers for unlocked WRT54GP2, but at higher prices (~USD 170 rather that ~USD 120). See e.g. http://www.techtopia.com.au/product_inf … ts_id/1090 . And There appear to be two versions, one with one antenna and another with two. Do the use the same circuit or are they different in other aspects?
By the way, how does your unit perform? Some reviews (e.g. http://mg.to/2005/01/08/vonage-si-wrt54gp2-no ) mentioned noise and other problems in some units.

I dont know. In my unit back side is simple no room for another antenna. All place is full of various plugs, space between them is around 10mm. In pcb is also no sign of another antenna, no antenna switch (like in WRT54G), no solder points, no plugs. In Linksys web i also can't find that two-antenna version. I think $170 is very expensive, i got unlocked version for approx. $115 from local computer store.
I have no problems with my unit. Works wery well with Asterisk.

Is it possible to put it in client mode, rather than AP? Of course, I mean using the original firmware.

The discussion might have continued from here.
