Thank you wurm_der_meister, it is a really helpful test!

It looks like everything is normal: no error message in dmesg, network config looks normal.

Can you try to access the network using the serial console? Like doing a ping to your PC set up with a static 192.168.1.2 IPv4 address w/o firewall in the way?

If it doesn't work, it could be interesting to setup the wireless network as client, so you have the ability to dump the uboot partition using "dd if=/dev/mtd0ro of=/tmp/mtd0" and post the file here, so we can try to reproduce the problem and fix it.

Then, as a last resort, as suggested by nebbia88, replace the 1.7 uboot by the 1.6. But if it doesn't work, then you router is definitely bricked sad

Can you explain the point 'setup the wireless network as client'?

Maybe it's simpler to enable wifi and connect to it...

Ok, connected to the Router via wifi. What is the next step?

Try the dd like above to get the uboot partition and post it somewhere, so we can try to flash it on one of our working router and/or compare with previous versions.

Thema 'dd...' says 256+0 records in, 256+0 records out...looks good...
But where ins the file and how can i Download? I don't understand the dd....Code...

dd simply created a /tmp/mtd0 file, now you should get that!

after setting a "passwd", you should get ssh enabled, then:

scp root@192.168.1.1:/tmp/mtd0 mtd0

or on windows use winscp to connect to router and copy files..

The "dd if=/dev/mtd0ro of=/tmp/mtd0" above reads the raw r/o "/dev/mtd0" partition as input file (if=) and write it to the "/tmp/mtd0" output file (of=).

So the resulting file is "/tmp/mtd0".

Now, you have to find a way to transfer it from the router to your PC or another machine using http, ftp, tftp or scp file transfer.

If you have the uhttpd web server running on the router, you can just create a symlink in the web root directory that points to this file, e.g.

ln -s /tmp/mtd0 /www/mtd0

Then, fetch the file using your PC browser at http://192.168.1.1/mtd0.

flashed with factory-to-ddwrt.

the same thing happened to my wr703n router newly purchased.  the version on the shell is Ver:1.6



i uploaded the "openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin" file (r34679 snapshot) from web interface. after rebooting, can't telnet to 192.168.1.1 now, and the wifi isn't working. ttl console print is:

I just made a WARNING on the wiki similarly to the one on the 1043nd, I HOPE SOMEONE read it before flashing and getting a "only serial recoverable" brick from their fresh new wr703n.

(still working on an easy fix..)

my question is, can we flash this u-boot file? if yes, what is the procedure??

It is not very easy, but possible.

The real problem is that you must have the uboot partition writable. This can be done by modifying the "drivers/mtd/tplinkpart.c" in the Linux kernel like described in:
https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php … 92#p162992

Now, the easiest way is to take an older 1.6 bootloader binary file and modify the MAC address at offset 0x1fc00 in it to match yours (see http://code.google.com/p/wr703n-uboot-w … -failsafe/ to see a programmatic way to do this, you can also edit the file using a good hex editor smile)

It looks like TP-Link changed the way they initialize the Ethernet switch in U-Boot 1.1.4 (Sep 25 2012 - 09:04:47) in TL-WR703N v1.7 compared to previous U-Boot 1.1.4 (Sep 26 2011 - 11:13:45) from TL-WR703N v1.6.

We worked on this problem with nebbia88, but we don't have a working solution yet.

Wrong.. OUR last tests were succesfull, i'm waiting for nbd to patch openwrt code, in the meantime i can post an AA beta2 and an rc1 build that should work with any u-boot.. gimme an hour or so..
