Topic: Howto mount a flash disk in AA

The content of this topic has been archived on 7 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I have been trying now for quite some time, but I cannot get my flash drive to mount in AA.
The stick is formatted using mke2fs /dev/sda1 - I only have one partion (for now)
I have created the directory /mnt/usb.
Fdisk gives me:

Disk /dev/sda: 8109 MB, 8109686784 bytes
242 heads, 24 sectors/track, 2727 cylinders, total 15839232 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x4d52356b

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sda1   *          63    15839231     7919584+  83  Linux

If i try to mount.....
root@OpenWrt:~# mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb
mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /mnt/usb failed: No such device

Here is some more output of my system:
Anyone's help in this really much appreciated because i guess i read all the forum articles and can't find an easy solution..
The same stick btw worked fine with Backfire...

System ASUS WL500GP

I compiled AA with basic options, plus cfdisk, fdisk e2fsprogs etc..
If I try now to install kmod-fs-ext4 i get the following...
root@OpenWrt:~# opkg install kmod-fs-ext4
Installing kmod-fs-ext4 (3.3.8-1) to root...
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/attitude_a … m47xx.ipk.
Collected errors:
* satisfy_dependencies_for: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for kmod-fs-ext4:

So I am not sure how to answer your question...

I recompiled again, added ext4 in the image options menu.
root@OpenWrt:~# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/shares
NTFS signature is missing.
Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Invalid argument
The device '/dev/sda1' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.
Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a
partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?
mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /mnt/shares failed: Invalid argument
root@OpenWrt:~#

I formatted the disk once with ext3 and once with ext4 - same result.

So the message is NTFS signature is missing... The search continues...

Succeeded by downloading a pre-compiled version of AA. Then adding the files for storage and rootfs (extroot)as per wiki.
Still I will have to re-engineer to see what was used in first instance to build the firmware because I like to compile it myself including the operational software for which all is meant.

Thanks again for your help.

The discussion might have continued from here.
