Topic: Finding out which version of WRT54G on old router

I'm trying to find out which versions of the LinkSys routers I have from a friend of mines. It's like over 3 yrs old.

S/N prefix C272 with firmware version: 1.42.7, Apr 03 2002 (stated on the LinkSys router web UI)

Do I need to upgrade or downgrade the stock firmware before re-flashing it with OpenWRT?

Thanks,
~Peter

Look at this page http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Har … sys/WRT54G
According to the table yours is not a WRT54G.

Earlier routers should contain the ping exploit - imho upgrading or downgrading Linksys firmware is a risky activity. In later routers upgrading using the Linksys web update page has been low risk.  But you should identify your version first.

Thanks gr8w11ne! I found out that it's actually a LinkSys BEFW11S4 version 2  802.11b AP.

I'm assuming since this model is not on the OpenWRT hardware list, it's probably never been tested before.
