Topic: Mercury MW4530R

Yesterday I realized that one of forum members told me about Mercury MW4530R Wi-Fi router and I have not paid due attention to this device.

Mercury MW4530R is a cheap clone of well-known TP-Link TL-WDR4310 router, so the device has double band wi-fi, giga ethernet switch and 1 USB port (big brother has 2 of them), 128MiB RAM and 8MiB flash (hope someone can mod it for bigger capacity). Looks like it is the most powerful and equipped device on Atheros platform so far.

I checked the prices for this router on AliExpress and you can get it for about 60USD shipping included (http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?Sea … ry+MW4530R). It is about US $20 cheaper than TL-WDR4310. I think it has very attractive price.

In Patchwork you can find a proposed patch which brings full support for this device in trunk (http://patchwork.openwrt.org/patch/3856/), so I expect we can get it working very soon.

I am placing my order for this unit right now.

I have created a stub article for this device in wiki (http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/mercury/mw4530r), please contribute with your knowledge and experience.

I was thinking to use this Mercury as torrent server and/or Tor website server. Please, comment if you have any experience on subject. Thank you!

Any ideas if current trunk releases support this guy or will be supporting it soon? 

Its a little hard to figure out what is the best and most current firmware on the chinese pages.

My router MW4530r is bricked sad so I need copy of"art" partition sent to me , it's  MTD4
can you help Me ?
on SSH please command :
dd if=/dev/mtd4 of=/tmp/art.backup
Then copy this "art backup" to your PC via WinSCP or some other way

I thought that "art" partition is individual for each router and not interchangeable (but I can be wrong).

What would I need to do in order to get a JFFS2 firmware loaded onto these?  We do a lot of writing and JFFS2 works better for us.  I see in this patch:

looks like it is only sending for squashfs.  Any ideas?

Could anyone here with the MW4530R post the output of the command "iw list"? I'm interested in the maximum transmit power that this device can do on the 5 GHz band. I ordered one at AliExpress to see if these devices can replace the bulky TL-WDR4300s in our house.

Excellent! Thank you. It seems that this device can do a lot more TX power on the 5 GHz band, when compared to the WDR4300. I hope I will have the device soon.

I wont take the regulatory power limit as a comparision parameter....

i don't think so.. hacking regulatory domain can show 30 dbm on all channels but that has nothing to do with real tx power of the wifi chip.

I've hacked the regdomain and still the command "iw list" doesn't show me higher values. What that command gives me, are the highest possible values that I can set with my hardware and current regdomain. If you want to see the regdomain limits (without the hardware limits), you use "iw reg get" instead of "iw list". smile

Hello, which firmware is the most stabil on this HW for general use?

I use now

openwrt-ar71xx-generic-mc-mw4530r-squashfs-sysupgrade39154-mini.bin

but sometimes the router lost the WAN connection.
I can't figure out why!

Could you recommend a package? I want to reserve a specific bandwidth for a specific ip.
