Hello!

I tried installing openwrt 15.05 chaos calmer on to my r7000 router. Well it bricked it.
So i went ahead and connected to the router using the serial port and reflashed using cmd line in windows10.
It always ends with "end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(31,4)"

Maybe im flashing it wrong ? Some users reported to successfully install it.

Many other Netgear routers, also feature a gpio activated tftp server in the CFE bootloader, so you don't have to solder anything, and instead you just keep holding one of the buttons when you turn the router on for a couple of seconds.

Is this not the case with R7000 ?

qtip wrote:

I tried installing openwrt 15.05 chaos calmer on to my r7000 router. Well it bricked it.
So i went ahead and connected to the router using the serial port and reflashed using cmd line in windows10.
It always ends with "end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(31,4)"

Maybe im flashing it wrong ? Some users reported to successfully install it.

There is nothing wrong with your flashing method, it's bcm47xxpart fault as it didn't detect UBI partition correctly (it created standard "rootfs" partition). We're working on fixing this, please see:
https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/20731
(you may help by installing trunk image on R7000 and providing a boot log).

I just bought this router.
Is it compatible with latest trunk builds? Where do I find the latest trunk build?

Hi @all,

what is the status of wlan driver and openwrt on the r7000?
I really like to switch to openwrt... I am using now dd wrt with entware, but tried openwrt Chaos Calmer 10.05 before, nice!

Thsnks a lot!

Br,
Thomas

Seriously, you got reply with links on previous page:

Any news?
Is WLAN now working on the R7000 with 15.05.1?

What about the ADSL version - the Netgear D7000?

Hello,

I like to use my R7000 as lan server but the USB port don't work, not with 15.05.1 and also not with the trunk image.

Is there a special driver package I need to install beside all other usb storage related packages?

thx!

As always, start with providing a boot log after installing usb packages.
Can you connect some device that has LED that lights on receiving power over USB? So you can verify if there is voltage on USB port at all?

Does the R7000 work with latest stable or trunk?
Is the WLAN working?

I am seeing issues with USB on the R7000 as well and do not believe that the USB device is receiving power.  Looking at changes for some other devices with the BCM53xx, it appears that a device tree change might be required to specify the GPIO to use (https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/8651251/).  I'm currently working with the R7000 on a PoC project right now that requires USB, so I'll see what I can figure out.

EDIT: Yep, looks like GPIO 0 is the key.  Did this with a device plugged in:

root@OpenWrt:/# echo 0 > /sys/class/gpio/export
root@OpenWrt:/# echo high >/sys/class/gpio/gpio0/direction
root@OpenWrt:/# dmesg
[ 191.730300] usb 2-1: new full-speed USB device number 2 using ohci-platform

[ 192.007768] cdc_acm 2-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device

EDIT2: The single GPIO works for both the front (USB3) and back (USB2) ports.

Thanks a lot for reporting, I sent patch, will backport it once it's applied.

Do we know the answer to this? It would be great to hear from someone that is using the R7000 with working wifi radios.
