Topic: why don't we need mkfs.jffs2 ?

Hi,

just curious how come the firstboot just do a mount without any mkfs command ? What would happen if the jffs2 partition has been shifted back by say 64k byte because of an enlarged firmware ? Would it become an empty fs or will the leftovers been seen ?
