Topic: RC4 on wrt54GL ..Client or Repeater problem

The content of this topic has been archived on 28 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I bought a wrt54gL ... I install RC4... and now I want my wrt to  be a wireless client to an AP

I set it up to be client  and this what I see

root@here:~# wl status

SSID: "abcAP"
Mode: Managed   RSSI: -67 dBm   noise: -88 dBm  Channel: 13
BSSID: 00:09:6B:34:BE:A8        Capability: ESS
Supported Rates: [ 11(b) ]

ok it is  client ... but...

root@here:~# iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

eth1      IEEE 802.11-DS  ESSID:"abcAP"
          Mode:Repeater  Frequency:2.472 GHz  Access Point: 00:09:6B:34:BE:A8
          Tx-Power:11 dBm
          RTS thr=2347 B   Fragment thr=2346 B
          Encryption key:off
Link Signal level:-67 dBm  Noise level:-88 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:25  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

br0       no wireless extensions.

vlan0     no wireless extensions.

vlan1     no wireless extensions.

says that my wrt54gl is a repeater..!

after ...

root@here:~# bwm
Bandwidth Monitor 1.1.0

       Iface        RX(KB/sec)   TX(KB/sec)   Total(KB/sec)

          lo            0.000        0.000           0.000
        eth0            0.000        0.030           0.030
        eth1           76.323        0.348          76.671
         br0            0.019        0.315           0.334
       vlan0            0.000        0.030           0.030
       vlan1            0.000        0.000           0.000

       Total           36.342        0.723          37.065

Hit CTRL-C to end this madness.

I saw wireless activity (only RX) but I didnt do wireless traffic ...

also I have iptraf package installed and I saw unknown ip Adresses ( in the same subnet but not the wrt

or my PC)

Maybe because you're set to repeater mode (wl0_mode=wet). Set it to client mode (wl0_mode=sta).

- DL

But  the wiki ...

http://wiki.openwrt.org/ClientModeHowto … 32aa7703a1

says ....   nvram set wl0_mode=wet  for Bridged client mode
I want the bridge and I want to be client...

Anyway I tried wl0_mode=sta  and the wrt cant associate with the AP  ..in no way...
so back in wet..  but still work as a repeater.
I see wireless traffic from other  clients into my wrt ( I use iptraf )

So any Idea  ...is it a bug?  is a problem of the wrt54gL ?

Thanks in advance

Try with nbd's pre-RC5 image  ...

I tried  with nbd's pre-RC5 image http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/nbd/whiterussian/

results nothing better .. now the wrt cant associate with AP  in no way ..either  sta or wet..

plus I think that nvram is corrupted....

take a look please

now what?

any suggestions please ?

thankyou!

At some point did you hold down reset while powering it on?

It is possible you wiped out the nvram and it's only partially repopulated. I would expect 100+ variables there.

no no I didn even touch the wrt !  smile

is it a good idea to reinstall the firmware  preRC5 ???

The discussion might have continued from here.
