I'm using an FTDI 232H USB to SPI cable as per:

3M SOIC chip clip.
Then Ubuntu 14.04, freshly built Flashrom/Libftdi etc.
The flash chip is (as you probably know), an MX25L12845E. I get as far as "Flashrom has detected a generic SPI blah blah" but that's about it. Then again, almost any combination of pins gives me that.
So, I expect I'm going to need to either a) desolder the chip b) get some resistors in there or c) have a beer.
