Topic: webif: setting the DNS servers: how to do it properly?

I set Network->WAN page with all relevant settings:
- Connection type: static
- fill in my public IP, mask, gateway;
- fill in my ISP's DNS1 and DNS2 servers;

Why unless I repeat those ISP's DNS servers on Network->LAN page - I can not resolve external names?

What should one place in Network->LAN DNS fields?

(I have set dnsmasq to advertize the WRT54GL's LAN IP as local DNS server)
