Topic: [HOWTO] Update to Barrier Breaker RC3 on TP-Link WDR4300 V1.6

The content of this topic has been archived on 23 Mar 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

The router was running with Attitude Adjustment 12.09 final.
I had some wifi instabilities I could not solve, which motivated me to try out a Barrier Breaker update.
This seems much better with Barrier Breaker RC3 (one day up and running at the moment).

- download the Barrier Breaker RC3 from there:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/barrier_br … pgrade.bin
Note the 'sysupgrade' in the name. This is the image required when updating using LuCi.

- go to the 'System > Backup / Flash Firmware' menu.

- select the new image to flash as new firmware and continue.

- verify the checksum displayed with the one of the file downloaded, and only continue if this matches.

- wait... (the router will restart)

- done smile

Just to be clear in case there are people new to openwrt visiting this thread: use the openwrt firmware file with "factory" in the filename to flash from the stock TP-Link firmware to openwrt. Once you are running openwrt, you can use the "sysupgrade" files.

By the way, this is a pretty standard procedure for all supported routers.

The discussion might have continued from here.
