Topic: WAG354G and serial console

The content of this topic has been archived on 18 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I created a serial console (or so i think i did) but it doesn't work.
The schematic is here: http://www.adslgr.com/forum/attachment. … 1145448498
I found out about the pins from here: http://www.hughe.co.uk/pub/pics/tech/op … _notes.jpg

When i try to connect with hyperterminal or minicom i see connected but nothing appears on the screen, even after reboots. I cannot type anything or see anything. I type but it's like i'm not typing, i don't see any output.

Does anyone know if i have done something wrong? Do i have to install openwrt first in order to get the serial console working?

Thanks.

I can't see the schematic, but make sure you have the tx and rx the right way round.

remember one mans RX is another man's TX.

Here is another link of the schematic:

I think i have tx and rx the right way. I'm not sure about voltages though.

that scematic relies on some pins being the correct voltage to power the max232. wich they should be. but that diagram looks correct.

do you have the serial speed set correcly?

I have tried 115000 or 9600 8 N 1. What's default speed i should set?
Is there anything i should set as well?

Ok, i had soldered pin CTS instead of RTS from the RS232.
Now it seems to work but instead of text i get

|LL`FCBoaExL)@/1]L)B/1]LLaaaa}sL~B4GpcgL|Gaaacaa'C!7a0)B/1]4

while restarting the router. I think i have to adjust my software now..

Operation successfull: The serial console works!!!!
Thank you hughe for your notes (i guess the site with the wag354g picture is yours) and your reply

Any notes on the jtag interface? Pin numbering and softwarei can use?

The discussion might have continued from here.
