Topic: Edit /etc/hosts and /etc/ethers via WebUI?

The content of this topic has been archived on 1 May 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Hi Folks,
Since 2015-01-01 I'm on OpenWRT BB 14.07 now, I Love it!
Have put all my MAC Addresses into /etc/ethers and Hostnames into /etc/hosts and it just works!

All I miss is a way to edit ethers and hosts via the WebUI, is there maybe allready a packages that does it, or would it hard to write one?

/etc/hosts -> Luci / Network / Hostnames should do the trick.

but where i must edit entry manually...
and it does not display the entries alreally in my /etc/hosts

you see, nothing in in WebUI but a lot of entries in /etc/hosts

Oh, sorry, I just recognized that Luci changes /etc/config/dhcp via the shown "Hostnames" tab, not /etc/hosts.

Are those hosts configured manually or via DHCP?

If you are using DHCP, what I would do is create a static lease for each one: each hostname will resolve once the lease is assigned.
This is not the same thing you asked but awfully close and can be done via WebUI.

The discussion might have continued from here.
