Topic: openwrt in atheros device ??

The content of this topic has been archived on 28 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

dear all,

[ sorry,   a bit new at OpenWrt]

My question is:

Is it possible to run in an AP  which has Atheros chipset?
If yes, what do you think if I use openwrt with madwifi (http://madwifi.org/ ) instead of binary crap of Atheros.
is it possible to work out ?
If anyone did, please provide the thread link.

Hi CSEDU,

The information you are looking for is in the wiki, wihch comes complete with a handy search function. *hint* *hint*

Mike

There are two things that you could mean by atheros device:
1) a router using just an atheros WLAN card (like the WGT634U which is a broadcom chipset with an atheros miniPCI card.)
2) a router using an atheros SoC processor

In either case the answer can be found in the Table of Hardware.  If the status of the device in question is not Supported or WIP then there are no plans to port OpenWRT to that device at this time.

Hi,
I have searched from the whole list hardwares and found following:
Netgear (WGR614  , WGT624  )  Atherros Chipset and wireless NIC ( atheros integrated)   WIP (working in progress)

Netgear,  WGT634U   Broadcom Chipset, Wirless NIC( Atheros  mini-PCI)  WIP
Netgear,  WPN824     (Atheros 2313 ) Untested..

it seems to me OpenWrt is more compatible with Broadcom family...

about Netgear (WGR614  , WGT624, WGT634U  ): who is working to test, and how is achieved?
could you please share, i would like to involve with this, more specifically I am interested to replece binary driver of Atheros with Madwifi (http://madwifi.org/ )- a stable open source driver for Atheros chipset.

I've also got a WGT624 (v3 unfortunately) that I'd like to get openwrt onto.
I've read all the posts and doc page but it all seems a little out dated. Is there anyone who can tell me what the current state of affairs is?  Is there anything close to a reliable build that is worth trying?

putin

Can you post some information about your wgt624. specifically the ethernet switch chip, the memory chip.

Thanks

Mike

How do you open these  things up? Can you get in without breaking a warranty seal?

It won't do what I bought it for (AP client mode) so I'm going to try and return it.  Of-course I would prefer to have an excuse to play with it smile

EDIT - Ignore that, I see the rubber feet lift up, I'll dig out my hex keys...

... Nope, my smallest key is a ten which is too big. I'll try and buy a smaller one tomorrow.

OK, I don't know which chip is which so I'll list all of them:

Large 128 pin chip maked M:
     88E6060-RCJ
     A44877.2
     0526 B0P
     TW

54 pin chip marked SI:
     IC42S16800-7T
     M007380CD 0520

16 pin chip between large one and heat sink, marked ST:
     25P16V6P
     9934 VG
     MYS 524

14 pin chip near LAN2 LED:
     46CR8 YK
     LVC04A

The board is marked:
     U12H040
     REV:1
     19.2185

That's it, I tried taking photo's but my camera isn't good enough to take close-ups that show the detail.

Hi Putin,

The 88E6060 is the Marvell Ethernet switch.
The IC42S16800 is the SDRAM chip (8Mb x 16 bits, so 16Mb in use)
The 25P16V6P is the Flash Chip 2Mb  (ar2315/ar2316/ar2317 use SPI for interfacing with flash which only requires 4 pins)

Thanks

Mike

So what's the verdict Mike?
Has anyone got a working build for this box?

Hi Putin,

Not presently. It's a Work in progress. It's a pretty standard board, although 2Mb of flash is a bit tight.

Mike

Hi, i have question about packages of Open-WRT

I compile firmware for  WPN824

But it's little bigger (2.8 Mb), but flash have only 2Mb

What package maybe have leave or change from Firmware?
