I am trying to get wds (not wl0_lazy=1)to work between two linksys routers, both running whiterussian rc5...and having lots of trouble.
One router is a wrt54gl (dnstairs)
the other is a wrt54gs (upstairs)

I have disabled firewall and dhcp on the upstairs router
I have also enabled wl0_wds= accordingly.
I am pretty sure I used the same pkg to install both routers (squash)

1. What am I missing?
2. Why are there some many varibales that are different?  ie..

I have spent many hours RTFM and just can't figure this out. sad
Is there a way to fix this...or atleast reset to openwrt defaults, and start again?

Many hours with RTFM, but not many enough smile, the wl_ variables are older, non-used version of the wl0_ variables as clearly stated in the manual.

You must also bridge WDS for this to work:

lan_ifnames=vlan0 eth1 eth2 eth3 wds0.49153

no you don't need to bridge WDS!

i've set up wds with wpa-aes this weekend and used the configuration of this thread:

how you will see you need password & co also for wds. i assume you have at least some encrypted enabled.

i had to adjust some minor things for the asus wl500gP, that i used, but i can't remember which settings.
i will post my settings, when i have access to the routers again (@ a friends house).

(for the time beeing) i guess it was
wl0_ifname=eth1
wl0_gmode=4 (as i know wds is not working with afterburner on some devices)
and ???

and some settings have no influence
wl0_closed for example

Thanks for the replies so far. I've done a considerable amount of documentation to my problem. Instead of posting here (because of the size), I have placed a page up on my website.

Please be a little patient during load. It is about 120k and includes the complete NVRAM for each system, as well as a image for the LAN I am trying to get working.

Hi,

I think I see the problem: There are actually 2 MAC addresses in the WRT54G:

- One for eth0
- One for eth1

For WDS to work you need to use the MAC address of the eth1 (wifi) interface. This is _NOT_ the same MAC address as printed on the box. So run an 'ifconfig' to find the MAC addresses for eth0 and eth1, and use the eth1 MAC addresses for WDS. You are currently using the eth0 address.
