Topic: Which image for TL-WDR3600?

The content of this topic has been archived on 19 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I'm a little confused about description of the version so, i don't know exactly which image i should use for replacing the original system from my router.

This information i get from my router:
Firmware Version:
3.13.31 Build 130320 Rel.55761n
Hardware Version:
WDR3600 v1 00000000

What i want to have:
-) With graphical interface
-) VPN Server on my router

So, which version fits?
Thx!

Use the TL-WDR3600 "factory" image in the ar71xx/generic directory.  There is only one hardware version of this router.

The image includes GUI.   You will need to install VPN packages separately.

There may only be one reported version, but my 3600 on the label on the bottom of the unit clearly shows v1.5 even thou their firmware only lists a v1.

For a first install, use the one below the "Firmware OpenWrt Install" in the table at "wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wdr3600#installation":

This 'generic' version will work correctly with a WDR3600 from the stock firmware using the stock GUI to flash?

Well I tried the factory generic openwrt F/W version for this Router, renaming it to the 'stock' file name, but it didn't work.
I got this message;

"18005 Upgrade unsuccessful, version of upgraded file was incorrect" (truncated).

Ant ideas here?
Note, I do have the most recent TP-LInk F/W version from 11/15 installed (not from 3/15), not the older original file from 3/2013.

TP-Link F/W page for the 3600 is here;

Google that error I know I've read about that before, it's something linksys changed

Well, it looks like their Nov. 2015 F/W locks out any additional flashing. I tried two different 'revert' files and their previous F/M from March of 2015 and basically get the same error message.

Yes, I see a ton of hit's to that error code. Nice of TP-Link, I'll remember NOT to buy another. At least I wasn't one of the ones that just bought these newer routers and found this out.
