Topic: Problem: Losing configuration

The content of this topic has been archived on 15 Mar 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

This has happened twice now...  I lose my configuration...  Like one day I have something not working properly, and I check, and my OpenWRT device (in this case, an E4200 V1 with Bleeding Edge) requested an IP from the DHCP server on my edge gateway router and isn't reachable at the usual address...

Luckily failsafe is enabled on the release I flashed on it, unlike a previous release that bricked an EA4500...  > : [

So I boot in failsafe, load the overlay partition, and everything in /etc/config is back to factory defaults, but most everything else in /etc is there...  BIND, NTPD, NGINX, ... all the configuration files are there, but /etc/config is back to factory defaults, and other little things like the symlink at /etc/resolv.conf -> /tmp/resolv.conf is back (normally it's a static file in /etc (like on a normal system).

What's going on?

I have a new persistent threat on my network, and the first occurrence coincided with the installation, but also with the opening of ports to the Internet that crawlers could've decided to look into...

Anyone?

The discussion might have continued from here.
