Topic: tp-link archer vr200v v1 / power consumption / how to reduce?

Hi!

Does somebody know, why the tp-link archer vr200v v1 uses so much power (9.5W although WLAN is disabled)?
The default box of my provider uses just 7.4W...
So the power consumption is at least 30% higher than technically necessary.

I mean:
Can I somehow cut the power supply of the WLAN section on the board?
Or can I somehow turn off the USB section?
Or is it hopeless?

I'm a little bit puzzled...:
Isn't power consumption as important as "speed" nowadays?

Thx.

The gigabit switches and PHYs are probably the largest consumers of DC, then the DSL system and the CPU itself.  WLAN and USB typically don't use much power.

so they just used not so "green" chips (i mean: compared to the O2 HomeBox)?

is it possible that they forgot to enable the ondemand cpu-frequency governor?

enabling WLAN results in an increase of 1500mW...

turning off a computer, that is connected via the eth switch (with a cable), results in a decrease of 500mW...

what about that DECT thingy?

is it possibly better to send the VR200v back to the vendor, while I'm within that money-back-window of 14 days?

seems like they do not turn off the unused modules (namely DECT and WLAN in my case)...
if i do not initialize those modules the power consumption is slightly lower than the consumption of the O2 homebox... *giggle*

I don't understand. How do you know that? How do you know what is technically necessary?

i use the default box (Homebox 6641) of my provider (O2 Telefonica)...
the „technically necessary minimum“ must be equal or lower...
right? smile
